ARMED ROBBERS HOLD MULTIPLE ATTACKS IN LAGOS, KILL 3 POLICEMEN, 1 CIVILIAN


Armed robbers, about 12 of them, yesterday unleashed terror in different parts of Lagos killing 3 policemen and a commercial bus driver. One of the policemen and the driver, who were killed at the PWD area of Ikeja, were in a commercial bus while the two other policemen, who were in a patrol van, were killed on Oba Akran Avenue, Ikeja. The armed robbers, believed to be the same gang that robbed in Ikeja, also robbed in Gbagada later in the day, injuring several others, including a one year old baby identified as Taiye.
The robbery attacks which took place between 1pm and 3pm also took place at Agege, Anthony, Ojodu, Itire, Ikeja and Ilasamaja areas of the state. They attacked various bureau de change operators in the respective areas, recharge card vendors, food sellers, motorists.
According to an eye witnesses“Around 1pm, robbers in two vehicles stormed Roundabout Bus Stop (Gbagada) in a Sports Utility Vehicle and a Toyota Camry and started shooting into the air.
“Three policemen in a white Volkswagen car confronted them but one of the policemen was shot. The policemen immediately entered the vehicle and drove off and did not even come back to help victims as the robbers operated unhindered for 30 minutes.”
The robbers made away with millions of naira from bureau de change operators at Gbagada,  and shot one of their members. A LASTMA official was also shot and injured at Anthony.
